Most Used Sex Toys by State
The Results Are In and It Turns Out Men Really Need to Step Up Their Sex Toy Game
The Story
The sex toy market has enjoyed a healthy expansion in recent years, estimated to top over $11 billion in 2025, and that’s largely due to a relaxing of sexual attitudes that has been, quite literally, decades in the making. But despite the gradual lifting of the taboos around self-pleasure and sex toys, there’s still a lack of quality data on the specifics.

Thankfully, Ohdoki, makers of the extremely popular The Handy sex toy for men, decided to do some much needed market research, surveying more than 2,000 Americans across every single state to determine which sex toys are the most popular. Their results were interesting in their own right, but one thing struck us at AskMen in particular: the total dominance of women’s toys.
Dildos and vibrators and even strap ons dominated the charts, leaving male-centric options in the dust. Here’s an in-depth analysis of their findings, for those of you curious about how your fellow Americans like to get it on.
The Snapshot
For the purposes of this study, the good folks at Ohdoki broke all sex toys down into eight distinct categories: vibrators, dildos, couples vibrators, anal toys, sensory toys, strap ons, sex furniture (think swings) and masturbation sleeves. Next, they created a handy graphic to help present their findings in an easy-to-read format:

What immediately jumps out at us, at least, is the total dominance of women-centric sex toys like dildos and vibrators. At the very least, this should put to bed the pervasive myth that women aren’t as sexual as men! In only one place did male masturbation sleeves reach the top spot (and even then they only managed to tie dildos), and that was in Washington, D.C.!
Also, for the sake of encouraging variety and sexual experimentation, let’s give a shoutout to Utah, where sex furniture was the most popular category; New Mexico, where sensory toys dominated, and North and South Dakota, where strap ons and anal toys were the most popular sex toys, a very welcome change from the ubiquity of vibrators and dildos!

Another big variable was sex toy usage, with some states having notably kinkier populations than others. Residents of Alaska, Vermont and Delaware were the least likely to have tried a sex toy, while people in West Virginia, Utah and Kentucky were the most likely.

Finally, vibrators were by far the most popular sex toy option, winning the number one ranking in 35 out of the 50 states, while dildos came in a distant second, winning 10 out of the 50 states.
The Lesson
If there’s one overwhelming takeaway from these findings, it’s that America, as a whole, is embracing sex toys in a big way, which should give men permission to do so as well! If there’s no shame in a woman owning a dildo or vibrator, there should be no shame in a man owning a masturbator toy or any other pleasure device.
And if the growing popularity of sex dolls is any indication, men might be on the cusp of doing just that. Maybe we just need a bit more time.
