Zing Coach Review: Could This AI Fitness App Help You Reach Your Goals?

A New App Leverages the Power of AI to Put a Personal Trainer in Your Pocket

It's no secret that working with a personal trainer can make a massive difference in reaching your fitness goals. But not everyone has access to one — some face limitations like scheduling conflicts, living in a remote location, or having a tight budget. Because let’s face it: A personal trainer’s fees can get expensive, and finding one who can accommodate your busy work schedule isn’t always feasible.

That's where Zing Coach comes in: This AI fitness app features a chatbot that can answer all your burning workout questions, personalized workout routines and meal plans, and even a Body Scan feature that can help you calculate your body composition. More than 1 million people already use the app, which has garnered more than 5,600 five-star reviews.

But can it really replace a human trainer? In this Zing Coach review, we’ll share the benefits, the drawbacks, and our honest take on whether it’s worth the cost.

How Much Does Zing Coach Cost?

There are several different subscription plans to choose from.

Here’s the cost breakdown of each:

  • $19.99 for one month
  • $29.99 for three months
  • $59.99 for one year

There’s also a free version of the app, but with that, you only get access to basic workout routines, progress tracking, and community challenges. In order to reap the benefits of all the AI features, like personalized plans, real-time feedback, and nutrition coaching, you’ll have to pay either the monthly or annual subscription fee.

New users always get a free one-week trial.

How Does Zing Coach Work?

After you create an account and username and set up your profile, Zing Coach will ask you for some basic information like your age, height, weight, current activity level, and fitness goals. This info helps the app to personalize your experience. Then you’ll have the option to integrate Zing Coach with data on your Apple Health app and/or Apple Watch.

While we found that Zing Coach does a great job of showing you the ropes after your profile is set up, here’s what to know about using the app’s key features and functions.

Advanced AI Coach

This is the feature that makes Zing Coach stand out the most. The AI Coach can schedule workouts, and make goal recommendations — all while regularly checking in about your sleep quality, energy levels, and mood, and adjusting your fitness plan accordingly.

The customized workout plans generated by the app are based on your fitness level and experience, body comp data, progress to date, and goals.

AI Body Scan

This feature analyzes your body fat, lean muscle mass, etc. from head to toe using your smartphone camera. This information is helpful for devising more personalized body composition goals.

Zing Vision

Using your smartphone’s camera, this technology can actually track and monitor your movements in real-time, and then provide detailed suggestions on how to improve your technique for better results.

Strength Score

This feature allows you to track your strength progress so you can set concrete goals and challenge yourself.

Dynamic AI Workout Progression

By far one of the most useful aspects of Zing’s AI is that it’s able to continually adjust how intense or complex your workouts are.

Workout Variation

The workouts that Zing Coach generates contain nearly 500 different exercises, and better yet, they’ll keep changing based on your goals and preferences. That means it’s highly unlikely you’ll do the same workout twice — which staves off boredom and ensures that you keep challenging your muscles in new ways.

Workouts vary a lot, from strength training and high-intensity intervals to recovery and stretching.

Fitness and Flexibility Tests

Curious about your current fitness and flexibility level? Take the in-app test to assess where you’re at. Then you’ll be able to improve both scores with targeted exercises based on your results.

Community and Support

Ever noticed how you’re motivated to work extra hard when you take a spin class, or work out with a buddy? Zing Coach harnesses the power of community by enabling users to participate in monthly challenges and connect with other fitness-minded people in a supportive yet competitive environment.

The Bottom Line: Is Zing Coach Worth It?

Like any app, Zing Coach has its pros and cons. Let’s dive into both.

Pros

  • Overall very user-friendly
  • Wide variety of workouts and routines, ranging from resistance training and HIIT to mobility and stretching
  • Easy to swap out exercises to customize your workouts according to your needs/preferences/limitations
  • Option to toggle the warm-up or cool-down on or off
  • Real-time form feedback
  • You can add rest time as needed
  • Workouts are mostly crafted around what equipment you have on hand
  • Videos showing how to perform exercises (along with written descriptions) are great for beginners — and help improve form while reducing the risk of injury
  • Shared challenges and experiences build a sense of community and enhance accountability and motivation

Cons

  • Sometimes the app still generates workouts with equipment that you didn’t select as available
  • Can’t save custom workouts that aren’t generated for you by the app
  • Can’t choose your workout and rest days
  • Can’t log cardio
  • Some machine options and exercise variants are missing in the app
  • Rest timer stops when your phone screen locks or you switch to opening another app
  • Unable to save workouts for future use

All in all, Zing Coach can definitely be a useful tool, regardless of your fitness level or goals. At $9.99 per month, it’s a far more economical option for getting personalized workouts and guidance than hiring a personal trainer — which often costs $50 to $100 per hour. The app is still evolving, and while it may not be perfect (we did experience a couple of glitches now and then), some of the individual features — like the AI Body Scan and Zing Vision form correction — are undeniably valuable. Whether you’re looking to lose fat, bulk up by building muscle, or improve your flexibility and mobility, Zing Coach can take the guesswork out of your at-home training.
